On July 28th - August 8th, the Marching Lions Band held their annual two weeks of Band Camp at QACHS. During the two weeks, the students worked very hard and were able to learn all of the music and field work for their fall field production of Thor's Hammer. They also worked on the music for the opening ceremony of the QA County Fair and Parade, along with all the music associated with performing at the home football games this fall. Themed spirit days were enjoyed by the members during the two weeks. Week one had 'Merica Monday, Tropical Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Super Hero Thursday, and Whiteout Friday. Week two had Movie Monday, Tie-dye Tuesday, Wednesday, Sectional Color Day Thursday, and Green and Gold Friday. The band also attended a field trip up to the University of Delaware for the Drum Corps International competition during the first week of camp as well.
On August 11th, the Marching Lions Band gave their first public performance of the season as they opened the Opening Ceremony at the QA County Fair by performing a selection in the Horse Ring and then lead the various 4-H Clubs around the 4-H Park to the main show ring, before they completed the circle on their own back to where they began.
On September 13th, the 2025 Marching Lions Band traveled to Kent Island High School for the Maryland Marching Band Association’s Eastern Preview show. The Marching Lions gave an outstanding performance for an adjudication panel of three judges that gave overall comments on what the band is doing well and areas for improvement and growth in preparation for their next competitive performance at the Colonel Richardson MMBA Competition on October 4th.
On October 4th, the Marching Lions Band traveled to Colonel Richardson High School to compete in the MMBA Week 3E competition. After working to complete the show and make the recommended adjustments, coming out of the preview show 3 weeks ago at Kent Island, the band gave an outstanding performance that earned them a score of 73.32 and 1st Place finish. In addition to their top placement in their group class, they also brought home a 1st place finish in both Percussion and Color Guard for their group class as well.
On October 11th, the Marching Lions Band had a very busy day as they marched with several Alumni Members in the Homecoming Parade that went from Kennard Elementary to the high school. To help start the game, the Marching Lions, along with the SMS Thunderbird Marching Band and the CMS Golden Retriever Marching Band, presented "My Country 'Tis of Thee" as a pre-game Mass Band presentation. After a brief moment of silence in remembrance of a former QACHS student, they presented the "Star Spangled Banner" to get the game started. During the game, they had the opportunity to play the QACHS Fight Song each time the team scored a touchdown, and that happened several times to bring the Lions a Homecoming victory. At half-time, the Marching Lions presented the latest version of their field production of "Thor's Hammer".
On October 25th, the Marching Lions Band traveled to Wicomico County Stadium at Wicomico High School in Salisbury, MD, for the MMBA Eastern Regional Championships. They gave another outstanding performance after another three weeks of hard work that earned them an improved score of 79.92 and a second-place finish in Group 1A, as well as 1st Place Color Guard and 1st Place Music.
On November 1st, the Marching Lions Band traveled to Towson University to compete in the MMBA State Championships. QA was 1 of 12 Group 1A Bands competing in that group category. After delivering their strongest performance of the season, they increased their score by 1.84 points over last week’s score, resulting in an 81.76, and finished in 6th place. In addition to the overall score and placement, the Marching Lions Color Guard finished 5th out of 13, and the Marching Lions Percussion finished 4th out of 13.
On November 11th, the Symphonic Band and the Marching Lions Band participated in the Centreville Veterans Day Ceremony. The Symphonic Band presented a bit of music before the ceremony began, the Marching Lions Band performed the Star Spangled Banner to help get things started, and the Symphonic Band presented a patriotic medley during the ceremony.
On November 22nd, the Christmas Ensemble performed a collection of Christmas favorites as a part of the Queenstown Premium Outlets' First Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. They began by performing their first set of selections from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by the actual tree lighting, where they played Oh Christmas Tree for the special occasion. This was then followed by a repeat performance of the full set of selections.
On December 3rd, the Symphonic Band and the Marching Lions Band presented their 2025 "Sounds of the Holiday Season" Winter Concert. It was an evening of music from both the Veterans Day Ceremony as well as Holiday Favorites for the upcoming holidays.
On December 5th, the Marching Lions Band helped lead the way for the 2025 Centreville Holiday Parade. The Marching Lions showed their Lions Pride as they marched through town playing "Christmas Parade Mash-up."
On January 24th, four members of the QACHS Lions Band traveled to Parkside High School in Salisbury, Maryland, to audition for a spot in the 2026 Senior All-Shore Honors Band. Three of these students earned a spot in the ensemble. Averie M. - 6th Chair Flute, Thomas G. - 3rd Chair Alto Saxophone, and Seeley G. - 3rd Chair Trombone. The concert will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 4:00 PM, at Wicomico High School in Salisbury, MD.
On February 19th, QACHS had 22 students who went to Chesapeake College to participate in the Maryland District V North Solo and Ensemble Festival. This festival provides an opportunity for students to perform in small chamber ensembles and/or as a solo artist for adjudication and/or comments for growth. We had 2 solos and 9 ensembles, which performed. The results on the day are that for the two solo performances, one received a rating of Superior and the other Excellent. The results of the small ensemble performances are that two ensembles received a rating of Excellent, and seven ensembles received a rating of Superior. The 8 events that qualified with the Superior rating have also qualified for the Maryland State Solo and Ensemble Festival at Towson University in May.
On March 11th, the Symphonic Band traveled to Kent County High School to participate in the Maryland District V Band Festival. The ensemble gave a fantastic performance on stage and earned a unanimous rating of “Excellent” before heading off to the Sight-Reading Room. During the Sight-Reading Assessment, the kids were very attentive and completed all of the pre-performance steps very well, before finishing with a great performance of that piece. As a result, they earned a rating of “Superior”. So that resulted in an overall rating of “Excellent” for the day.
On April 28th, the Symphonic Band and the Marching Lions Band presented their 2026 Spring Concert. It was an evening full of music that included the three pieces that they presented at District Band Festival back in March, as well as two additional fun and light selections that included the use of rubber chickens. The Marching Lions Band presented the selection that they will be performing for their Parade Review performance in Hershey, as well as in the Chestertown Tea Party. The concert was then concluded with a salute to the current and past members of our various military branches.
On May 1st - 3rd, the Symphonic Band and Marching Lions Band traveled to Hershey, PA, to participate in the Music In the Parks Hersheypark festival. On Friday evening, the Symphonic Band gave its performance and was adjudicated by a panel of two nationally recognized adjudicators. Then on Saturday morning, the Marching Lions Band marched in a parade review performance in the parking lot of Hersheypark and was again adjudicated by a panel of two adjudicators. In the afternoon, both ensembles attended the awards ceremony in the historic Hershey Arena. The outcome of both of their performances earned each group a 2nd Place finish, with the Symphonic Band earning a rating of "Excellent" and the Marching Band earning a rating of "Superior".
On May 8th, the QACHS Jazz Ensemble hosted its 21st Annual Night of Jazz back in the QACHS Cafeteria. The evening featured performances by both the QACHS Jazz Ensemble and the CMS Jazz Ensemble. The members of the audience were able to enjoy some sweet snacks and drinks while the two groups passed the spotlight back and forth, performing their various selections. Then, to close the performance out, the two ensembles performed "You've Got a Friend in Me" together.
On May 20, 27, and June 3, the QACHS Marching Lions Band held their 2026 Marching Lions Mini-Camp. All three evenings were filled with great energy and excitement for the upcoming season. It was shared on the second night what was hopefully going to be the 2026 production. Then, at the beginning of the third and final night, the rights had indeed been secured for the Marching Lions to present "There's A Monster Under My Bed" as their field production this coming fall.
