Recent Band News
The 2023 - 2024 Marching Lions Band held their 2023 Band Camp on July 24 - 28 and July 30 - August 4, from 8AM-5PM at the High School. During the two weeks, they worked on the Music and Drill for the 2023 field show, "The Music of James Bond".
On September 30th, the Marching Lions Band had a very busy day as they performed in the QACHS Homecoming Parade, Mass Band Pre-Game, and Half Time performance. During the Homecoming Parade that went from Kennard Elementary School back to the High School, they performed "Cheyenne". During their Pre-Game performance with the Sudlersville and Centreville Middle School Marching Bands, they performed a special arrangement of "This Is My Country" before playing the National Anthem. During their half-time performance, they presented their 2023 production of "The Music of James Bond".
On October 2nd, the Marching Lions Band attended their first competition of the season that was hosted at Rising Sun High School, in Rising Sun, MD. After finally finishing putting the last sets of the drill on the field, the kids showed off that hard work in their performance that earned them a score of 73.79 earning them a 3rd Place finish.
On October 21st, the Marching Lions Band gave their second competitive performance of the season at the T.O.B. Chapter 9 Championships which brought their regular competition season to a close. With this they earned a score of 76.78, earning them a third place finish out of four bands as a Group 1A.
On November 29th, the Combined Concert Band, Marching Lions Band, and Combined Concert Choir held their 2023 "Sound of the Holiday Season" Winter Concert in the John F. Andrews Performing Arts Center at QACHS. The large crowd in attendance was ushered into the holiday season by enjoying both traditional and contemporary holiday favorites presented by each of the ensembles.
On December 8th, the Marching Lions Band participated in the rescheduled 2023 Centreville Christmas parade after the parade was canceled due to inclement weather on the original date the week before. The band entertained the audiences along the parade route with Holiday Medley.
On December 20th, the Combined Concert Band, Marching Lions Band, Combined Concert Choir, members of the Dance Department, and members of the Theater Department traveled to both Sudlersville and Centreville Middle Schools to share some holiday cheer as they promoted their program offerings at QACHS. The assembly at SMS included the entire student body (grades 5 - 8) while CMS invited their 8th grade students to attend in preparation for their scheduling of 9th grade classes after the first of the new year. The performances were enjoyed by all in attendance at both schools.
On January 27th, QACHS had 4 members of the QACHS Lions Band who traveled to Bennett Middle School in Fruitland, Maryland to audition for a spot in the 2024 All-Shore Honors Band.

*Everett J. also auditioned on the Trumpet in addition to the French Horn and made a chair placement on that instrument as well, but chose to take the French Horn position.
On February 22nd, ten students walked over the wooden bridge from QACHS to Centreville Middle School to perform and be adjudicated at the Maryland District V Solo and Ensemble Festival. These ten students performed as a part of 6 different events made up of one solo, three duets, one trio, and one quartet that were all student-led and rehearsed. The outcome of the morning was 4 Superior Ratings, 1 Excellent Rating, and 1 Rating of Good.
On March 1st, 2nd, 9th, and 10th, the Pit Orchestra and the cast of Beauty and the Beast performed for record crowds. Each show saw a larger audience than each of the previous shows.
On March 12th, the Combined Concert Band traveled to North Dorchester High School to perform and be assessed at the Maryland District V Band Festival. They gave an excellent performance and the judges unanimously agreed and gave them a rating of "Excellent".
On April 13th, the 4 students who represented QACHS as members of the 2024 Senior All-Shore Honors Band shared an outstanding evening of live music. The concert was presented by both the Junior and Senior bands at Easton High School as the Junior Band celebrated 45 years and the Senior Band, 60 years.
On April 25th, the Combined Concert Band, Marching Lions Band, and Combined Concert Choir held their 2024 Spring Concert in the John F. Andrews Performing Arts Center at QACHS. The large crowd in attendance enjoyed a vast selection of tunes presented by each of the ensembles as well as a patriotic finally presented by both the Combined Concert Band and the Combined Concert Choir.
May 2nd - 5th, the Combined Concert Band and the Marching Lions Band traveled to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to participate in the Music in the Parks Dollywood festival. While there, the Combined Concert Band performed on Friday evening and the Marching Lions on Saturday morning. Everyone enjoyed the day spent in Dollywood with the many rides and shows As a result of the performances that were given, the Combined Concert Band earned a rating of "Good" and the Marching Lions a rating of "Excellent."
May 8th, the QACHS Jazz Ensemble and the CMS Jazz Ensemble presented a fantastic evening of Jazz music at the 19th Annual QACHS Night of Jazz. After each ensemble presented the selections that they prepared independently, they presented one final selection, together, titled "We Are Family" with a rousing response by the audience who showed their excitement for the evening through a standing ovation.
